dbas. So I made the switch to database and BI developer, thinking I could set the world right. Boy, was I wrong. As it turns out, to all the application architects I encountered, database development is what dbas are supposed to do, instead of, and while, the rest of the world sleeps.
As a reports and BI developer, I was the messenger getting shot so much I didn’t even notice I was actually being blamed for data inconsistencies in the OLTP system. As I learned, business people have even less understanding of how data moves in an application than production managers.
So at this point I’d like to open the discussion to your data quality horror stories. Tell me your worst, funniest, or most bizarre examples of poor data quality. Next week I’ll share some of my thoughts on why, with all the tools we have available to avoid most data quality issues, it is still such an issue. And my grim prediction of why I believe the situation is going to get even worse in the future.
